In September 2018, AKC launched the AKC FIT DOG program where dog owners who walk a specified distance with their dogs can receive a free AKC FIT DOG car magnet. It has been a great success and now the program has expanded to recognize AKC FIT DOG Clubs! These are local groups which meet and accomplish certain fitness goals together with their dogs.
Dog Barn It is proud to say that we are now an Official AKC FIT DOG CLUB as of March 2026!
Come join us for one of our four group fitness walks held annually or register for the 2026 Spring Scurry to get a medal and put in some miles with Dog Barn It's AKC FIT DOG CLUB.
To promote health and fitness for dogs and their owners, AKC FIT DOG clubs will:
Conduct at least 4 group fitness walks per year, or
Conduct regularly scheduled canine fitness/conditioning classes.
In the fitness walks and classes, dogs and owners may participate at their own individual skill level.

Join the Dog Barn It AKC FIT DOG CLUB 2026 Spring Scurry! Complete a 5k (3.1 miles) at your own pace with your furry friend (dog required) by June 30, 2026, and get a running medal for your completion. Don't worry about logging your miles formally, we can do that for you; just snap a pic of you and your dog and the miles completed via GPS and we will document them properly for you and submit them. Once you have completed your run/walk, the medal will be mailed to you! At the end of the event time frame, we will compile a Dog Barn It AKC FIT DOG CLUB video to share everyone's fitness journey with their dog. NOTE: The miles can be completed at one time or over a series of runs/walks. It is all based off you and your dog's fitness level at time of completion. The only rule is that the 3.1 miles must be completed before June 30, 2026, to receive the medal. **Once purchased you will recieve an email on ways to get your miles recorded**
